I have the nonour to acknowledge the receipt

of Your Lordship's despatch No.47 dated 19th February and

in reply to inform you that the situation as regards known brothels is still the same generally as was reported in Sir R. E. Stubbs' despatch No.255 of 7th July, 1923.

The number of known Chinese and Japanese

brothels in the Colony is today 222 and the number of

prostitutes 2,657. There are six known "foreign" brothels

with a total of 17 "foreign" i.e. non-Asiatic prostitutes.

The age at which women are allowed, on their

request and after enquiry, to practise as prostitutes in

known brothels in the Colony is 19 and upwards.
